2nd Grade

Through the legends of noble people and the impish and caring nature of animals found in Aesop’s Fables, Jataka Tales, African and Native American Legends, the Second Grader explores the impact of one’s actions, their developing sense of themselves and the gifts and imperfections of all human beings. Their focus for learning expands and allows for more complexity in language arts, math and specialty classes. Rhymes and tongue twisters stimulate the development of phonemic awareness and beginning spelling skills. The recalling of stories provides an opportunity to create individual compositions. Mathematics expand from the four processes into place value, carrying and borrowing. The patterns in multiplication are further explored with geometric drawings and rhythmical work.
