The lottery for TK and K placement at Heartwood’s Bothin program for the 2023-24 school year will take place on Friday, March 3rd at 10:45 a.m. at Little House, on the Bothin Campus at 3125 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Fairfax, California. You are welcome to attend this public lottery event.
The open enrollment time period for the 2023-24 school year ends at the end of the day on February 15th, 2023. All those who have completed their enrollment applications during the open enrollment time period will be considered eligible for the TK and K lottery. Starting February 16, 2023, any students with incomplete applications or Intent to Enroll submissions for grades TK and Kindergarten will be placed on the waitlist. The placement for incomplete applications will be after those students with completed applications who were entered into the lottery and were not selected for a spot in the classes.
We will be following this protocol:
Applications will be accepted during a publicly advertised open enrollment period each year for enrollment in the following school year. Following the open enrollment period each year, applications shall be counted to determine whether the Charter School has received more Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten applications than availability in the Bothin Program. In the event that this happens, the Charter School will hold a public random drawing to determine admission.
Admission preferences in the case of a public random drawing shall be given to the following students as follows: All students currently enrolled in the Charter School and siblings of enrolled students, as well as children of Heartwood teachers and staff and Founding Board Members, shall be exempt from the lottery. Preferences will be extended to residents of the authorizing District when names are placed into a random drawing; the names of District residents will be placed in the drawing twice, whereas non-district residents’ names will be placed in the drawing only once. In the drawing, the Charter School will not limit enrollment access for pupils with disabilities or other disadvantaged students.
At the conclusion of the public random drawing, all students who were not granted admission due to capacity shall be given the option to put their name on a wait list according to their draw in the lottery. This wait list will allow students the option of enrollment in the case of an opening during the 2023-24 school year before enrollment closes for the year. In no circumstance will a wait list carry over to the following school year.
Please note that if siblings happen to be in the same lottery if one sibling’s name is drawn the sibling preference will automatically be triggered and the remaining sibling will get the next available placement in the class, or on the waitlist, whichever is available
